Airbnb has officially implemented its total price display feature worldwide, marking a major milestone in improving pricing transparency and simplifying the booking process for millions of travelers. Originally piloted in 2019 across selected markets, including parts of Europe, Australia, Canada, and South Korea, the feature gradually expanded with a toggle option introduced to more than 200 countries in 2022. Now, it becomes the default display setting across the entire platform.
With this global update, all Airbnb users will see the total reservation cost, which includes all mandatory fees, excluding taxes, right from the search results. This provides a more accurate view of pricing, helping guests make better-informed decisions based on their travel budget and reducing confusion caused by hidden fees at checkout.
According to Airbnb, nearly 17 million users have already used the total price view since its wider rollout in 2022, reflecting strong global demand for clarity and straightforward cost comparisons. The company notes that this change streamlines the guest experience while encouraging fair pricing practices among hosts.
Benefits for Hosts and Guests
The total price display isn’t just a win for travelers. Airbnb emphasizes that the feature also benefits hosts by fostering trust and transparency, two key pillars of the platform’s long-term strategy. Alongside the global price update, Airbnb has expanded its suite of pricing tools designed to help hosts stay competitive and responsive to market trends.
These tools include dynamic price suggestions, promotional discounts, and a “similar listings” feature that allows hosts to benchmark their rates against comparable properties. In 2024 alone, more than 80% of hosts used at least one pricing tool, and over 2 million hosts took advantage of the similar listings tool to fine-tune their pricing.
For guests, the platform has introduced new search tips and discount suggestions, highlighting ways to save, such as weekly or monthly rate reductions when extending a stay. These updates aim to maximize budget efficiency for travelers and make it easier to discover value-added bookings.
A Commitment to Transparency and Innovation
This global pricing reform is part of Airbnb’s broader effort to build a more transparent, user-friendly ecosystem. By showcasing total prices upfront, the platform reduces friction during the booking process and addresses longstanding feedback about hidden fees.
“Pricing transparency is essential to building trust with our community,” said a spokesperson from Airbnb. “With the global rollout of total price display, we’re making it easier for guests to compare options and for hosts to attract the right bookings at fair prices.”
The move comes as part of Airbnb’s continuous evolution to align with the expectations of modern travelers who prioritize clarity, fairness, and usability. As the platform continues to innovate across its offerings, this update reinforces its mission to create a better, more inclusive travel experience for both guests and hosts around the world.
