As part of its ongoing efforts to support the sustainability goals of its hosts and guests, Airbnb has announced a partnership with ChargePoint, a leading provider of networked charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs). This collaboration aims to make it easier and more affordable for Airbnb hosts in the US to install EV chargers at their listings, responding to the growing demand for EV-friendly accommodations. From 2022 to 2023, searches using Airbnb’s EV charger filter increased by more than 80%.
- Airbnb and ChargePoint will offer US hosts discounts on EV chargers and installation services, facilitating the addition of this amenity. The partnership includes:
- Discounts on various ChargePoint EV charger models, including up to 36% off select models.
$100 off installation services. - An additional $200 discount funded by Airbnb for the first 1,000 hosts purchasing an EV charger through ChargePoint.
According to internal Airbnb data, listings with EV chargers are booked more frequently and generate higher income compared to those without this amenity . The new listings editor in the Listings tab enables hosts to easily showcase and manage details about their home, including EV charging access, to attract guests who drive electric vehicles.
Rising Demand for EV Chargers Among Guests
The partnership is timely, as guests increasingly seek convenient access to EV chargers. In 2023, California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington, and North Carolina were the most popular states for searches related to EV charging. This trend mirrors the broader growth in the US EV market, where sales increased by 60% from 2022 to 2023, with California, Florida, Texas, and Washington leading in EV registrations.
“We are thrilled to join forces with ChargePoint to help hosts meet the growing demand for electric vehicle chargers from guests,” said Ameet Konkar, Airbnb’s Director of Sustainability. “By making it more affordable for hosts to install EV chargers, we are empowering them to take more sustainable actions and appeal to guests who are interested in this amenity.”
Rick Wilmer, CEO at ChargePoint, added, “Ensuring all drivers are able to charge when and where they need to remains our top priority. Together with Airbnb, we are removing barriers to broader adoption of residential charging solutions for Airbnb hosts and enabling a frictionless charging experience for their guests.”
Sustainability at the Core
This partnership builds on Airbnb’s ongoing initiatives to encourage sustainable practices within its community. Alongside providing educational materials in its resource center, Airbnb has launched programs in the US, France, the UK, and Spain to help hosts make their homes more energy-efficient. These programs aim to reduce emissions and provide long-term savings on energy bills, with thousands of hosts participating to date. Nearly 90% of hosts report using at least one sustainable hosting practice, such as recycling, composting, reducing single-use toiletries, or offering guidance on using public transit .
Airbnb is excited to introduce this new opportunity for hosts to support sustainable travel options, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and guest satisfaction.
