Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced a major expansion of its intercontinental network with a new direct route connecting Copenhagen and Seoul, set to launch on September 12, 2025. This groundbreaking service will be the first regular direct flight between Scandinavia and Korea, operating four times weekly during the summer season and three times weekly in winter.
The new route underscores Scandinavian Airlines ’s commitment to establishing Copenhagen as a premier global hub for intercontinental travel. It also caters to growing demand from Korean travelers to explore Scandinavia and offers seamless connections to over 100 destinations in Europe via SAS’s extensive network.
“This new route highlights our commitment to meeting customer demand and enhancing connectivity between two dynamic regions,” said Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS. “Seoul, renowned as a global center of culture, innovation, and business, is a strategic addition to our growing network. As a proud SkyTeam member, this route further strengthens the seamless connectivity we provide, linking Scandinavia to key destinations across the globe.”
Flights will feature evening departures, optimizing connection options within Europe and maximizing travelers’ time in Seoul. The route will be served by fuel-efficient Airbus A350 aircraft, accommodating 300 passengers with cutting-edge comfort and reduced environmental impact.
Strengthening Ties Between Scandinavia and Korea
South Korea’s appeal as a destination for Scandinavian travelers has surged in recent years, driven by its vibrant culture and the global influence of the Korean Wave, which includes K-pop, Korean dramas, and cuisine. Visitors to Seoul can explore a dynamic mix of historic palaces, futuristic skyscrapers, bustling shopping districts, and renowned culinary scenes.
Seoul is also a key business hub with strong ties to Scandinavia in industries such as green technology, digital innovation, and sustainable solutions. Incheon International Airport, serving Seoul, is among the world’s busiest international freight hubs, handling over 2.76 million tons in 2023.
SAS Expands Intercontinental Network
The Copenhagen-Seoul route is part of SAS’s broader intercontinental strategy. With the launch of a Seattle route in May 2025, Scandinavian Airlines will offer 14 intercontinental destinations from Copenhagen, linking Scandinavia with key global markets.
This new route marks a milestone in fostering closer ties between Scandinavia and Korea, enhancing cultural exchange, tourism, and business collaboration.
