Early this morning, a vessel named Sea Story sank off the coast of Egypt in the Red Sea, carrying 45 people onboard, including approximately 30 tourists from various countries, according to regional authorities.
Governor Major General Amr Hanafy confirmed that the crew issued a distress signal in the early hours. Rescue teams have located some survivors near Marsa Alam, a coastal city popular with divers and tourists. Efforts are underway to evacuate the survivors using aircraft and naval frigates, with medical assistance being provided. The nationalities of the tourists remain unconfirmed at this time.
The Sea Story had departed from Port Ghalib yesterday, bound for Hurghada with an expected arrival on Friday. The boat carried 31 tourists and a crew of 14.
Search and rescue operations, supported by naval forces, continue to search for additional survivors, Hanafy stated.
