Lufthansa announced on Monday it will prolong the suspension of all flights to Israel until December 15 due to the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. The extension affects all airlines under the Lufthansa Group, including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Eurowings. Lufthansa also confirmed that its flagship flights from Frankfurt and Munich to Tel Aviv will remain grounded through the end of the year.
This latest suspension, previously set to end on November 25, reflects continued adjustments made by the Lufthansa Group in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, mirroring the actions of other international carriers. In addition, flights to Tehran are suspended until late January, while service to Beirut is expected to resume in late February.
Several other European carriers have also extended suspensions of flights to Israel. Italian carrier ITA Airways, the only Italian airline with regular Israel routes, will halt services until January 12, as reported by Israel Hayom. Air France recently announced a 45-day extension, with flights to Israel now suspended until December 26. Aegean Airlines of Greece also confirmed it will not resume services until December 3.
In the UK, Virgin Atlantic cited delays in Rolls-Royce engine deliveries as a reason for pushing back its Israel service resumption to October 2025, according to Bloomberg and Channel 12. American Airlines has extended its Tel Aviv suspension from March to September 2025, and British Airways and Delta have suspended their flights until April 2025.
These carriers join an expanding list of airlines prolonging their suspensions of services to Israel as the regional crisis continues to impact international travel.
