Passengers on River Cruise Thurgau Stranded in Vienna Due to Flooding

More than 100 passengers aboard the Swiss river cruise ship Thurgau Prestige remain stranded in Vienna, as heavy flooding on the Danube River has halted their journey. In a press release issued Monday morning, Thurgau Travel, the vessel operator, confirmed that 102 passengers and 40 crew members could not disembark due to the ongoing flood conditions.

The severe flooding, triggered by recent heavy rains, has left the ship anchored in Vienna indefinitely. According to Thurgau Travel, Austrian authorities are assessing the situation and will decide when it is safe for the ship to resume its journey or allow the passengers to disembark.

“We are in constant communication with local authorities, and the safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority,” the company stated. “Catering and all other essential services are fully guaranteed on board.”

The Thurgau Prestige had originally been scheduled to sail from Linz to Budapest and back, but its journey was interrupted by the rising waters. The ship will remain docked in Vienna until conditions improve and clearance is granted by the Austrian authorities.

As of now, there is no clear timeline for when the vessel will be able to continue its itinerary or when passengers may be allowed to disembark. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.

Local flooding has also caused disruptions along the Danube River, impacting other vessels and areas in the region. Authorities are advising travelers to stay informed and follow guidance from local officials.
