Hotel Collapse in Kröv an der Mosel: Two Dead, Five Rescued

A hotel in Kröv an der Mosel has partially collapsed, resulting in the entrapment of nine people, two of whom have died. So far, five individuals have been rescued from the debris, reports SVR.

At a morning press conference, the police confirmed that two people—a man and a woman—died in the collapse. Jörg Teusch, the fire and disaster protection inspector for the Bernkastel-Wittlich district, stated that they died during the collapse, which occurred overnight. Among the five people rescued was a family with a two-year-old child. Dutch media reports confirm that the family is from Urk in the Netherlands.

Two more individuals remain trapped in the building, suffering from potentially severe injuries. According to the police, rescue teams have maintained contact with those trapped via smartphones. Over several hours, rescue workers used heavy equipment to create an access point and drilled a hole into the debris. Microphones were then placed through the hole to facilitate ongoing communication.

The hotel is a very old building, with its foundation dating back to the 17th century. In the 1980s, two additional floors were added, supported by a concrete ceiling installed at that time. According to Peter Fritzen, the senior public prosecutor, construction work was being carried out at the hotel the day before the collapse. Whether this work contributed to the incident remains to be determined.
