Frankfurt Airport, the largest in Germany, experienced a partial power outage last night due to a rodent, according to Spiegel.
The incident occurred around 10:45 PM local time on Monday. The power failure affected areas A and partially B in Terminal 1, primarily used by Lufthansa.
In addition to the power loss, parts of the terminal were filled with smoke. An airport spokesperson stated that emergency power was immediately activated, ensuring no danger to passengers. Normal power was restored around 3:30 AM. However, the outage disrupted the schedules of Discover Airlines and Lufthansa due to a malfunction in the baggage sorting system.
The airport revealed that the cause of the outage was a rodent, identified as a grey dormouse, a distant relative of mice. The animal was found dead near a chewed cable.
