Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have approved a high-speed railway project linking their capitals, Kuwait City and Riyadh. The construction of the railway line is scheduled to commence in 2026 and is expected to be completed within four years.
International companies are currently being invited to join the project for its “initial development” phase. The railway will span approximately 500 kilometers, with the journey between the two cities taking about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Ticket prices are promised to be competitive, making rail travel an “affordable alternative” to air and road transportation.
The high-speed trains are expected to carry 3,300 passengers daily, with plans for six round trips to meet demand. Officials from both countries highlight that this ambitious project aims to enhance transportation infrastructure, promote economic integration, and strengthen bilateral relations.
This new high-speed rail line is set to be a landmark in regional transport, offering a swift and efficient means of travel between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, while also providing a boost to the economies and connectivity of both nations.
