HX, formerly known as Hurtigruten Expeditions, has announced the cancellation of its first two Alaska cruises of the season due to a technical issue with one of its newest ships, the Roald Amundsen. Currently undergoing planned maintenance at a shipyard in Panama, the vessel requires “unforeseen technical repairs,” according to a letter sent to booked guests and reported by Cruise Industry News.
The necessary repairs will delay the Roald Amundsen’s departure to Alaska, resulting in the cancellation of two open-jaw cruises in May. These include a voyage scheduled to depart on May 17 from Vancouver and another set to leave on May 29 from Seward back to Vancouver.
Affected guests have been offered the option to rebook on an alternative voyage in the region this year at no additional cost. Alternatively, they can choose to receive a future cruise voucher worth 125% of the price of their canceled cruise.
Despite the setbacks, the line remains optimistic that the Roald Amundsen will be ready to sail its June 10 cruise out of Vancouver as planned.
The Roald Amundsen is notable for being the first hybrid electric cruise ship, representing a significant advancement in sustainable maritime travel.
