The decision to merge the domestic civilian aircraft brands MC-21 and Superjet under a single aviation brand will be announced soon, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov on January 3rd at the Coordination Center of the Russian Government at the International Exhibition-Forum “Russia.”
“I won’t hide the fact that we are working in this direction [merging brands]. I won’t finalize the decision we are approaching, but obviously, we will announce it soon,” he told TASS.
In August 2022, the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Yuri Slyusar, mentioned the possibility of consolidating civilian aircraft under one brand. Sergey Chemezov, the head of Rostec, also noted that the SJ100 aircraft might undergo a name change.
On December 26, Yuri Slyusar announced that the first flight of the SJ-100 with the domestic PD-8 engine would take place in early 2024. The engines have already been installed on prototype aircraft.
