Exciting Cruise Highlights in 2024: Largest Liner, China-Built Cruise Ship, and Luxurious Voyages

In 2024, cruise enthusiasts can anticipate at least two major highlights – the world’s largest liner and the inaugural cruise ship constructed in Chinese shipyards.

The World’s Largest Cruise Liner Takes the Stage

In January 2024, Royal Caribbean’s cruise company will launch the Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship to date. With 20 decks, the liner can accommodate 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members. Notable features include the Thrill Waterpark, boasting the world’s largest at-sea water park with six slides, including the first-ever open-air drop slide on a cruise ship.

The ship will offer seven pools, including an adults-only pool, an infinity pool with an ocean view, and the expansive Royal Bay. Departing from Miami, Icon of the Seas will primarily embark on 7-day round-trip cruises, visiting destinations like Mexico, Honduras, the Bahamas, and Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at Coco Cay.

China’s Maiden Cruise Ship: Adora Magic City

Setting sail from Shanghai on January 1, 2024, Adora Magic City will mark China’s first cruise ship entirely built in the country. Constructed at CSSC Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co, the 16-deck vessel can accommodate 5,246 passengers in 2,125 cabins.

Operated by CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Ltd., a joint venture of China State Shipbuilding Corp. and Carnival Corporation, Adora Magic City will embark on 6-day international journeys, visiting Cheju Island in South Korea and the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Fukuoka.

Luxury Cruises Aboard MSC Cruises’ Explora II

In August 2024, MSC Cruises will commence voyages on Explora II, the second ship in the Explora Journeys class, offering a new level of luxury. Boasting panoramic ocean views from all cabins, the ship will feature individual climate control, a minibar, a laptop-sized safe, convenient gadget charging, and a terrace with a dining area for In-Suite Dining and loungers.

Starting in the Mediterranean Sea, Explora II will depart from Barcelona, visiting Civitavecchia, Ibiza, Port-Vendres, Portofino, Monte Carlo, and Porto Santo Stefano. The cruise will offer a unique itinerary, allowing passengers to explore less frequented destinations. The liner will stay in the region until November 2024, after which it will head to the Caribbean.
