France is going to ban short-haul domestic flights. All routes will be permanently canceled if the journey time between them does not exceed 2.5 hours. For example, flights Paris – Lyon and Paris – Bordeaux will be closed.
Passengers will have to use high-speed trains as an alternative. The travel time of such a train from Paris to Lyon is a little less than 2 hours (almost an hour longer than a flight along the same route, not counting the road to and from the airport), from Paris to Bordeaux – 2 and a quarter hours (an hour longer). Thus, the travel time by train and plane is about the same, given that railway stations are located in the center of cities, unlike airports.
