The global corona pandemic continues to have a firm grip on the aviation industry. In addition to the flexible rebooking options and the abolition of the rebooking fee, Austrian Airlines is therefore now offering a further option for more security in the planning of air travel: With immediate effect, the existing insurance packages offered by AIG now include Covid-19 services. Passengers can choose between “Travel Care” and “Travel Care Plus” packages.
The “Travel Care” insurance package includes a compensation payment for passengers who have to go into quarantine at their destination due to a Covid-19 infection. The package also includes travel cancellation and trip interruption insurance.
The “Travel Care Plus” option includes, in addition to the benefits of the “Travel Care” package, medical costs in the event of a Covid-19 infection of the passenger. A possible emergency medical repatriation is also covered. All insurance benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.
The insurance options are offered by Lufthansa Group’s insurance partner AIG Europe S.A. and can be booked through the direct distribution channels for passengers of Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS residing in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Lufthansa Group Airlines are thus one of the first airlines to offer their customers travel insurance with Covid-19 coverage as a supplement travel product.
