According to the latest figures, the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 86.8 million passengers in August 2020, 19.9% fewer than in the same month last year. Passenger numbers on suburban commuter services amounted to 77.5 million, a decline of 17.9%, while long-distance passengers fell to 9.3 million, down 33.4%.
Passenger turnover in August 2020 amounted to 10.5 billion passenger-kilometres, 39.3% less than in the same month of 2019. Suburban passenger turnover was down to 2.6 billion pass-km, a decline of 17.4%, while long-distance passenger turnover fell to 7.9 billion pass-km, a decrease of 44.1%.
A total of 543.7 million passengers travelled during January to August 2020, which was down 31.3% on the same eight-month period in 2019. Long-distance passengers declined to 45.7 million, a fall of 43.2% on January-August 2019, while suburban commuter numbers amounted to 498 million, a decrease of 30%.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network has decreased by 43.6% since the beginning of 2020 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 52.2 billion pass-km. Commuter passenger turnover fell 30.2% to 15.8 billion pass-km, while long-distance passenger turnover was down to 36.4 billion pass-km, a decline of 47.9%.
