The recent opening of the connector between Terminal 3 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) marked a significant milestone for travelers and airport staff. This development now allows ticketed passengers and employees to enjoy seamless pedestrian access across LAX’s terminals post-security. The newly established pathway covers approximately 2 miles, stretching from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8. This convenience makes it easier for airport guests to navigate between terminals and access a wide range of amenities, including dining options, shopping, entertainment experiences, lounges, children’s play areas, and pet relief stations, among others.
This historic moment signifies the first instance in the airport’s nearly century-long history where unrestricted terminal-to-terminal access is available to all users. The recent modernization efforts at LAX have facilitated airside connectivity, and this will be further enhanced when the Automated People Mover and its corresponding pedestrian bridges are scheduled to open in 2024.
Karim Webb, President of the Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC), stated, “As we modernize LAX to significantly enhance our guests’ experiences, we are also advancing economic opportunities for the airport’s neighbors and the greater Southern California region. The projects that have enabled passengers to move between terminals post-security have also generated employment for over 7,000 local workers, resulting in over half a billion dollars in wages for these individuals. The approximately 2-mile end-to-end connection from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8 will continue to create career pathways for our local community by supporting the expansion of operational and concession roles.”
Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), noted, “The positive impacts of LAX’s transformation are beginning to materialize at the airport. With this latest milestone, passengers can now travel from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8 post-security without the need for buses. This is just one crucial update in a series of improvements that are making travel at LAX more efficient, reliable, and user-friendly.”
