Hard Rock International Unveils Plans for New Hard Rock Hotel Algarve in Portugal

Hard Rock International has announced its upcoming development of the new Hard Rock Hotel Algarve in Portugal, situated near the stunning shores of Praia do Vau, Portimão. This expansion marks another milestone in the iconic brand’s global presence. The project, slated to commence construction in early 2024 and open in the summer of 2026, will offer approximately 275 luxurious rooms and suites, along with an additional 150 branded serviced apartments.

Guests at the new property will not only enjoy direct access to the beautiful beach but will also have access to a wide range of amenities, including the popular Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club™, three restaurants, three bars, three outdoor pools, a Rock Spa®, gym, Rock Shop®, sports area, and beach club.

Todd Hricko, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Hotel Development for Hard Rock International, expressed enthusiasm for the brand’s expansion into Portugal. He stated, “We’re delighted to bring Hard Rock Hotel’s unparalleled offerings to the beautiful country of Portugal in 2026. This new development will further extend the enhanced entertainment experience our guests know and love to yet another part of the world, while incorporating the country’s amazing culture.”

Portimão, the ideal vacation destination, offers historic ports, a vibrant marina, and is globally recognized for the Algarve International Autodrome, which hosted the Portuguese Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021. The town boasts some of the best beaches in the Algarve region, featuring extensive sandy coastlines and tranquil, warm, and clear waters. Praia do Vau, the location of the upcoming property, is bordered by coppery cliffs, turquoise waters, and a variety of restaurants serving fresh fish.

Jordi Vilanova, President of Mercan Properties, expressed excitement about being part of the evolution of the Hard Rock brand. He said, “We’re thrilled to create a unique asset on the shores of Praia do Vau that reflects the Portuguese culture and attracts visitors from around the globe. We believe that this collaboration between Mercan Properties and Hard Rock International will be a great success in Algarve and a very positive contribution to the country.”

The new development is expected to generate over 400 jobs in the area during both the construction phase and the operation of the property, commencing in 2024. The hotel’s presence is anticipated to enhance the tourism experience in the country.
