Emirates Resumes Newcastle Service

Emirates officially resumes its Newcastle service today, reconnecting people and businesses in the North East with its growing global network. Flight EK033 will land in Newcastle at 19:10 and return flight EK034 will depart at 21:10, arriving in Dubai (DXB) tomorrow at 07:25 (all times local).

The Newcastle resumption follows the quick restart of operations to London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow airports over recent months in response to a surge in demand for international travel. The Newcastle service will operate four-times weekly and takes Emirates’ total UK weekly flights to 77.

Newcastle is being served by a Boeing 777-300ER widebody aircraft, offering passengers a choice between First, Business Class and Economy with spacious cabins throughout and an industry-leading range of inflight entertainment. Today also marks the resumption of chauffeur services to and from Emirates’ Newcastle hub, providing passengers with a comfortable and frictionless premium travel experience for their onward journey.

Richard Jewsbury, Divisional Vice President at Emirates UK commented, “We’re extremely pleased to see flights returning to and from Newcastle, responding to an increase in bookings across the UK since international travel was made far simpler. In over 10 years of operations, millions of people from the North East and beyond have enjoyed our unrivalled travel experience, and we look forward to welcoming more passengers back on board soon.”

Nick Jones, CEO of Newcastle International Airport, said: “Today marks a very important milestone in the recovery of the Airport and of international travel from the region. Emirates has operated flights from Newcastle International Airport since 2007, providing vital connectivity to Dubai and beyond for passengers travelling for business, leisure or to visit friends and family. The route has also carried billions of pounds worth of cargo into and out of the region – supporting businesses right across the North.

Dubai is one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations and we are delighted that the return of the route today, with a new evening departure time, will provide another option for those looking for a well-deserved winter sun getaway from Newcastle.”

Emirates’ commitment to the UK
Emirates currently offers a six times daily A380 London Heathrow service, double daily A380 flights to Manchester, a ten-weekly service to Birmingham, a daily service to Glasgow, and a four-weekly service to Newcastle. By December Emirates’ total UK weekly flights will increase to 84, as daily services return to London Gatwick Airport.

The increase in operations will make it easier for UK customers to access Emirates’ growing global network of 120 destinations – close to 90% of Emirates’ pre-pandemic network. With the UK now accepting vaccination certificates from 55 countries including the UAE, vaccinated travellers arriving in the UK no longer need to self-isolate. The Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, International Trade Secretary, said: “Since Emirates added Newcastle Airport to its global network in 2007, the value of flown exports leaving the North East has increased exponentially. The Dubai route is hugely important in connecting the region with the United Arab Emirates, but also with other trading partners across the world. It is pleasing to see this important flight returning to serve this great exporting region.”

Graeme Ferguson, Head of Airports, Europe at AMP Capital: “We welcome the return of Emirates to Newcastle Airport, which restarts a vital passenger and cargo trade route for the north of England. The addition of this major route at Newcastle demonstrates the continued recovery of the aviation sector.”

Councillor Tracey Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council and Chair of the LA7 shareholders, said: “This is very welcome news for the airport and the North East as a whole. This route is extremely important, not only for leisure passengers, but also in supporting businesses across the region to trade and export worldwide. The return of the airline signals a major step in the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The future success of our region’s economy relies heavily on good connectivity with the wider world so the fact that this marks the final step in restoring the region’s international connectivity to pre-pandemic levels is a significant milestone.”
