The Czech Republic has unveiled a new digital nomad visa program with the aim of luring foreign highly skilled professionals and freelancers to work from its picturesque territories. This initiative, which came into effect in July this year, grants a one-year visa to digital nomads and remote workers, making the Czech Republic an enticing destination for those seeking a mix of work and leisure. The Minister of Industry and Trade of Czechia, Jozef SÃkela, expressed the government’s vision for the program, stating, “Among other things, we want to create an interesting environment for the operation and development of foreign technology teams in the Czech Republic, which is why we are coming up with a new program that targets digital nomads in particular.” This program underscores the Czech Republic’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement.
The digital nomad visa is currently open to nationals from eight select countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. To qualify, applicants must hold a university degree or possess three years of work experience in the IT industry. This stringent requirement ensures that those benefiting from the visa have a high level of expertise in their field.
Remote workers in the Czech Republic employed by foreign companies must meet a minimum income threshold of $2,734 (CZK 60,530) per month, which equates to 1.5 times the average salary in Czechia. Additionally, the foreign company employing digital nomads in the Czech Republic must have a workforce of at least 50 employees, ensuring the program’s alignment with substantial and reputable businesses.
Applicants can obtain the Czech Republic’s digital nomad visa for a fee of $112 (CZK 2,500), and the visa is initially valid for one year. The efficient processing time for visa applications is set at a maximum of 45 days from the date of submission.
Once the one-year period elapses, digital nomads have the option to apply for a residence permit, extending their stay in the country for an additional two years. This flexibility ensures that those who find themselves at home in the Czech Republic can continue to thrive in its unique work-life environment.
The program is not exclusive to individuals; spouses, registered partners, minors, and dependent children of qualified digital nomads can also apply for a residence permit.
