Beckons Wins Approval for New Luxury Lodge Near Uluru

Luxury lodge operator Beckons has received planning approval for a new ultra-luxury retreat near Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, marking the brand’s first purpose-built property since its launch earlier this year.

The intimate nine-suite lodge will be located among the red sand dunes close to Uluṟu, a short distance from Longitude 131°, and is currently scheduled to welcome its first guests in early 2028.

Planning Approval Granted

The project received approval following comprehensive ecological, heritage and sacred sites assessments, together with extensive consultation with Traditional Custodians.

Further details, including the property’s official name and construction timeline, are expected to be announced once development plans are finalised.

Luxury Retreat Immersed in the Red Centre

Designed by Australian firm JAWS Architects, the lodge will be carefully integrated into the surrounding dune landscape adjacent to Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

The retreat will feature eight Desert Suites and one multi-room Desert Pavilion, each offering uninterrupted views of Uluṟu, private plunge pools, outdoor daybeds and luxury swags for open-air stargazing beneath the Central Australian night sky.

Guests will also enjoy panoramic views of Uluṟu from the property’s restaurant, bar and lounge, making it one of the closest luxury accommodations to Australia’s most iconic natural landmark.

First Nations Culture at the Heart of the Experience

First Nations culture has been placed at the centre of the guest experience. Each suite will display a commissioned artwork inspired by Kungkarangkalpa (Seven Sisters), one of the most significant Aṉangu Creation stories represented in the night sky above Australia’s Central and Western Deserts.

The lodge will also collaborate with renowned Indigenous art organisations including Ernabella Arts, Tjanpi Desert Weavers, Tjala Arts and the APY Centre Collective, creating opportunities for respectful cultural exchange while supporting local artists and communities.

Expert guides will lead personalised experiences exploring the landscapes, traditions and stories that have shaped the region for thousands of years.

Expanding the Beckons Portfolio

The new development strengthens Beckons’ collection of luxury lodges, which includes Southern Ocean Lodge, Longitude 131°, Capella Lodge, Silky Oaks Lodge and The Louise in Australia, alongside Huka Lodge in New Zealand, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge in Canada and Tierra Atacama and Tierra Patagonia in Chile.

The company has also outlined plans for continued international growth, with future destinations under consideration including the Maldives, Kenya, southern Africa, Fiji and North America.

According to Chief Executive Officer Michael Crawford, the Uluṟu project represents a natural evolution for the brand, combining highly personalised hospitality with meaningful cultural experiences and a deep connection to one of the world’s most spiritually significant landscapes.
