IHG Signs First Kimpton Hotel in Madrid as Luxury Expansion in Spain Continues

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Spanish retail giant El Corte Inglés to bring the Kimpton brand to Madrid for the first time, marking another step in the company’s expansion of its luxury and lifestyle portfolio across Spain.

The new hotel will be developed within a heritage building in Madrid’s prestigious Salamanca district and is expected to open in mid-2030. Featuring 106 guestrooms, the property will become Kimpton’s fourth destination in Spain, joining the brand’s existing hotels in Barcelona, Mallorca and Marbella.

The announcement reflects growing confidence in Madrid’s luxury hospitality market, which continues to attract international investment as visitor demand for high-end accommodation and lifestyle experiences increases.

Kimpton Makes Its Madrid Debut

The planned hotel will introduce Kimpton’s boutique luxury concept to Spain’s capital, offering guests a design-led hospitality experience in one of the city’s most sought-after neighbourhoods.

Located in Salamanca, an area known for luxury shopping, fine dining and elegant architecture, the property is expected to appeal to both international travellers and domestic visitors seeking an upscale city stay.

The district has become one of Madrid’s most desirable locations for luxury tourism, benefiting from its proximity to cultural attractions, premium retail destinations and some of the city’s most exclusive residential areas.

Luxury Facilities Planned for the Property

Plans for the hotel include a range of amenities designed to strengthen its appeal in Madrid’s competitive luxury accommodation market.

The development will feature a ground-floor restaurant, a spa, an indoor swimming pool and a rooftop venue combining a restaurant and bar with views across the city.

The combination of wellness, dining and lifestyle facilities aligns with Kimpton’s positioning as a luxury brand focused on personalised experiences and locally inspired hospitality.

Spain Remains a Key Growth Market for IHG

The Madrid signing highlights the strategic importance of Spain within IHG Hotels & Resorts’ European growth plans.

The company has continued to expand its luxury and lifestyle footprint across the country, supported by strong tourism demand and increasing investment in high-end hospitality projects.

With destinations including Barcelona, Mallorca, Marbella and now Madrid, Kimpton is building a broader presence in some of Spain’s most popular leisure and urban travel markets.

Madrid Strengthens Its Position as a Luxury Destination

Madrid has experienced significant growth in luxury tourism over recent years, attracting visitors seeking premium accommodation, world-class gastronomy, cultural experiences and luxury retail offerings.

The city has benefited from continued investment in hospitality infrastructure, helping establish the Spanish capital as one of Europe’s leading destinations for upscale travel.

The new Kimpton hotel is expected to further strengthen Madrid’s luxury hotel landscape when it opens later this decade.

IHG Continues Expanding Across Europe

The Madrid project is part of a wider European development strategy being pursued by IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Earlier this month, the company announced plans to introduce its Hotel Indigo brand to Stockholm’s Kvarnholmen district in Sweden. The 232-room property is scheduled to open in 2029 and will further expand IHG’s lifestyle hotel portfolio in Northern Europe.

With multiple projects progressing across key European destinations, IHG continues to focus on growing its presence in the luxury and lifestyle segment, targeting markets with strong tourism fundamentals and long-term development potential.
