Sri Lanka is becoming more accessible for travellers from western India following the launch of new direct flights between Ahmedabad and Colombo by FitsAir.
The Sri Lankan carrier will begin operating the route on 19 June 2026, providing nonstop connectivity between Gujarat and the island nation in approximately three hours and 40 minutes.
The new service has been introduced in partnership with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, City of Dreams Sri Lanka and Walkers Tours, with the aim of boosting leisure, wedding, wellness and luxury travel between the two destinations.
Three Weekly Flights Between Ahmedabad And Colombo
The route will connect Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad with Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.
FitsAir will operate the service three times per week using Airbus narrow-body aircraft, offering passengers a direct alternative to connecting itineraries that previously required longer travel times.
The schedule has been designed to maximize time at the destination, allowing travelers to arrive in Colombo and begin their holiday with minimal transit time.
Sri Lanka Targets Growing Indian Travel Market
The new route reflects Sri Lanka’s growing focus on attracting Indian visitors, particularly from key regional markets such as Gujarat.
India remains one of Sri Lanka’s largest source markets, supported by strong cultural, historical and religious ties between the two countries.
Growing interest in heritage tourism, including the Ramayana Trail, has further strengthened Sri Lanka’s appeal among Indian families and leisure travelers.
City Of Dreams Sri Lanka Positioned As Key Attraction
A major focus of the launch is City of Dreams Sri Lanka, recently opened in Colombo as South Asia’s first integrated resort destination.
The development combines luxury accommodation, dining, nightlife, entertainment venues, leisure facilities and large-scale event spaces designed to attract both domestic and international visitors.
Visitors arriving on the new flights will also have access to Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts’ wider portfolio in Colombo, including Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo and Cinnamon Red Colombo.
Launch Packages Introduced
To support the new route, travel partners have introduced special holiday packages for Indian travellers starting from INR 55,555.
The packages are expected to target a broad range of travellers, including honeymooners, families, wellness seekers, luxury travellers and those looking for a short international getaway.
With direct flights now available, Sri Lanka is positioning itself as one of the most convenient short-haul international destinations for travellers from Gujarat, offering a combination of beaches, culture, luxury hospitality, shopping and entertainment within a few hours of India.
