Turkish Airlines has moved closer to acquiring a stake in Air Europa after receiving approval from the Spanish government for its planned investment in the Spanish carrier.
According to an update provided by Turkish Airlines to investors on June 4, Spanish authorities have approved the airline’s proposal to purchase a minority stake in Air Europa as part of a deal worth approximately €300 million.
Turkish Airlines Could Acquire Up To 27% Of Air Europa
The investment would give Turkish Airlines ownership of between 25% and 27% of Air Europa, with the final percentage expected to be confirmed when the transaction closes.
Turkish Airlines first submitted a binding offer for the Spanish airline in August last year and originally expected the transaction to be completed within six to eight months.
The airline now says it expects the acquisition to be finalized sometime during 2026.

The investment is strategically important because Air Europa offers one of Europe’s strongest route networks connecting Spain with Latin America.
For Turkish Airlines, gaining access to those markets could significantly strengthen connectivity between Türkiye, Spain and major destinations across Central and South America.
Air Europa currently operates extensive long-haul services from Madrid to destinations throughout Latin America, making it an attractive partner for airlines seeking expansion opportunities beyond Europe.

The investment represents another major international expansion move for Turkish Airlines as it continues strengthening partnerships and pursuing growth outside its home market.
