Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas is strengthening its long-haul ambitions after opening ticket sales for expanded nonstop flights between Rio de Janeiro and New York, signaling broader international growth plans beyond its traditional regional network.
The airline confirmed that direct flights between Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão Airport and New York JFK will continue into 2027, following the launch of the route during the 2026 winter season.
The expansion forms part of a wider international strategy that includes planned services to Europe and additional destinations in North America.
Rio To New York Flights Expand Into 2027
Beginning March 28, 2027, GOL will operate three weekly round-trip flights between Rio de Janeiro and New York JFK.
Flights from Rio will depart every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 9:55 p.m., arriving in New York at 6:55 a.m. the following morning.
Return services from New York will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays with departures scheduled for 11:00 p.m. and arrivals in Rio at 9:55 a.m.
The route officially launches on July 8, 2026, when GOL begins its first seasonal operations between the two cities.
American Airlines Partnership Strengthens Connectivity
The airline will operate from Terminal 8 at New York JFK, the primary hub for American Airlines, allowing stronger onward connections across North America and international destinations.
Tickets are available directly through both GOL and American Airlines sales channels as the partnership continues expanding connectivity options.
The route will be operated using Airbus A330 widebody aircraft capable of carrying nearly 300 passengers with flight times approaching 10 hours depending on operating conditions.
For premium travelers, GOL’s INSIGNIA business class product includes fully flat beds, lounge access, premium dining and 16-inch entertainment screens.
Long-Haul Expansion Continues Beyond New York
The New York route represents only part of GOL’s international growth strategy.
The airline has also confirmed future long-haul operations to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orlando, although launch dates remain unannounced.
These additions mark a significant shift for GOL as it increasingly targets international leisure and premium traffic alongside its traditional domestic and regional operations.
By expanding long-haul flying from Rio rather than relying exclusively on São Paulo, GOL is also positioning Galeão Airport as a larger international gateway within Brazil.
