Lyft Expands Taxi Partnership with Curb to New York City

Lyft has expanded its partnership with taxi-hailing platform Curb to New York City, allowing passengers using the Lyft app to be matched with licensed taxis alongside traditional rideshare vehicles.

The launch follows similar integrations in Los Angeles and San Francisco as Lyft continues to broaden transportation options available through its platform.

Licensed Taxis Available Through the Lyft App

Passengers requesting a Standard, Priority Pickup, or Wait & Save ride in New York City may now be connected with a nearby licensed taxi when one is available.

According to Lyft, riders who prefer not to be matched with a taxi can adjust this preference within the Lyft app settings.

The integration is designed to improve vehicle availability while giving passengers access to New York City’s extensive taxi fleet without leaving the Lyft platform.

Same Lyft Experience for Taxi Trips

Taxi rides booked through Lyft will continue to use the company’s standard customer experience.

Passengers will receive upfront pricing before confirming their ride, along with driver and vehicle information. Travelers will also retain access to Lyft’s in-app safety features, as well as the ability to tip drivers and submit ratings after completing their journey.

The goal is to provide a consistent booking experience regardless of whether the trip is fulfilled by a rideshare driver or a licensed taxi.

Powered by Curb’s API

The expanded partnership is enabled through Curb Flow, the company’s application programming interface (API), which aggregates ride requests into a single network.

By connecting Lyft’s rider demand with Curb’s taxi network, the system can dispatch the nearest available licensed taxi when appropriate, improving fleet utilization and reducing passenger wait times.

Expanding Transportation Choices

The New York rollout represents another step in Lyft’s strategy of integrating traditional taxi services into its platform alongside rideshare vehicles.
