A hotel in Bavaria Zum Hirschen has come under intense scrutiny after an Israeli couple allegedly received a message stating they would not be allowed to stay because they were Jewish, triggering investigations and widespread criticism.
Authorities have already launched investigations while travel platforms and local officials respond to growing public pressure.
Booking Attempt Sparked Controversy
The elderly Israeli couple had planned a vacation in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region and attempted to reserve accommodation through an online booking platform.
Instead of receiving a confirmation, they reportedly received a message stating that Jewish guests were not permitted at the property.
Following the incident, the couple contacted both the booking platform and Israeli diplomatic representatives in Germany.
The booking platform later removed the hotel from listings after verifying the authenticity of the communication.
Authorities Launch Investigation
German prosecutors have opened criminal proceedings examining possible incitement and hate-related offenses connected to the incident.
The case has also drawn diplomatic attention with Israeli representatives publicly questioning explanations offered by the property.
Hotel representatives later apologized and argued that repeated phishing attempts and fake reservations led staff to incorrectly classify the booking request.
Officials representing the affected travelers have questioned whether this explanation adequately addresses the circumstances.
Hotel Receives Backlash Following Public Attention
Following widespread reporting, local tourism representatives reportedly invited the affected couple to visit the region free of charge.
At the same time, hotel management says employees have experienced threats and harassment since the incident became public.
The investigation remains ongoing while authorities continue examining the circumstances surrounding the booking refusal.
