Portland State University has announced plans for a major mixed-use development that will combine hospitality, education and cultural spaces as part of a new $70 million investment near downtown Portland.
The project includes a planned 150-room hotel and conference center alongside classrooms, performance spaces and facilities designed to support arts organizations.
The development represents one of the university’s larger recent infrastructure partnerships as institutions increasingly explore mixed-use projects to expand revenue opportunities and strengthen community engagement.
University Partners With Development Group On Major Project
The project is being developed through a partnership between Portland State University and Colas Development Group.
Colas Development Group combines construction expertise with real estate investment experience and is connected to broader development initiatives focused on hospitality and mixed-use projects.
The development team says the project is intended to create new spaces supporting education, conferences and community activity while strengthening the surrounding district.
Hotel And Conference Facilities Form Core Of Development
Plans call for construction of a 150-room hotel designed to support visitors, conference attendees and university-related travel demand.
The conference facilities are expected to create additional event capacity while supporting business, academic and cultural gatherings.
University-linked hospitality developments have increasingly become tools for institutions seeking additional revenue streams while improving visitor infrastructure.
Project Also Includes Arts And Educational Facilities
Beyond hospitality infrastructure, the development will incorporate new educational spaces including classrooms, rehearsal facilities and studio areas.
Arts organizations are also expected to gain access to dedicated spaces as part of the wider project.
The mixed-use approach reflects broader trends where universities increasingly integrate hospitality, commercial activity and cultural programming into campus expansion strategies.
Located near the southern end of downtown Portland, the project is expected to contribute further investment into an area experiencing continued redevelopment and urban transformation.
