Ruby Hotels Expands To New York With First Manhattan Property Planned For 2027

Ruby Hotels is expanding its U.S. footprint with plans to open its first New York City property, bringing the European lifestyle hotel brand to Manhattan as part of a broader North American growth strategy.

The upcoming Ruby New York City marks the brand’s second U.S. signing within months following an earlier announcement in Chicago, with both properties expected to open in 2027.

Located along Manhattan’s Avenue of the Americas, the future hotel will introduce Ruby’s signature approach to urban hospitality, combining compact design, lifestyle-focused experiences and lower operating complexity.

Ruby Hotels Targets New York Expansion

The New York project represents an important milestone for Ruby Hotels as parent company IHG Hotels & Resorts accelerates international expansion of the urban lifestyle brand.

Executives say New York was selected because of its ability to attract travelers seeking design-driven accommodations without traditional luxury pricing.

“Ruby’s arrival in New York City reflects our momentum in bringing the brand’s distinctive experience and flexible model to major U.S. urban markets,” said Jolyon Bulley, CEO Americas for IHG.

The Manhattan hotel will become the brand’s flagship U.S. location as Ruby attempts to establish itself in some of the country’s largest gateway cities.

Historic Manhattan Building To Undergo Transformation

The project involves converting an 18-story building originally constructed during the 1930s into a 187-room lifestyle hotel.

A comprehensive renovation is scheduled to begin later this year, transforming the historic structure into a modern hospitality destination designed around Ruby’s “lean luxury” philosophy.

The hotel’s location places guests close to Herald Square, the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden and some of Manhattan’s busiest transportation corridors.

Compact Rooms And Social Spaces Define Ruby’s Concept

Ruby Hotels has built its identity around efficient room layouts that prioritize essentials while reducing unnecessary space and operating costs.

At Ruby New York City, guests can expect compact but design-focused accommodations featuring premium finishes, rainfall showers and the brand’s signature beds.

The hotel’s lobby bar will operate around the clock and is expected to become the central social hub for both travelers and local residents.

Executives describe the concept as creating high-energy environments inspired by the atmosphere found throughout Ruby’s European portfolio.

Strong Growth Plans Beyond New York

Founded in Germany in 2013, Ruby Hotels currently operates or has projects underway across approximately 40 properties globally, primarily concentrated throughout Europe.

Recent expansion announcements include planned entries into Belgium as well as additional developments across Germany and Italy.

IHG says it aims to expand Ruby to more than 120 hotels globally during the next decade and eventually surpass 250 properties over the next 20 years.

Part Of A Larger IHG Expansion Strategy

The new Ruby property arrives as IHG continues expanding its presence across New York City.

Recent openings have included new Kimpton properties in Midtown and Park Avenue, while additional developments are planned under multiple premium brands.

Later this year, Crowne Plaza is expected to return to Times Square with a newly converted hotel, adding further competition to one of the world’s most crowded hospitality markets.

For Ruby Hotels, entering Manhattan offers more than visibility. It provides an opportunity to test whether its European lifestyle model can resonate with travelers in one of the world’s most demanding hotel markets.
