Fiji Airways and WestJet have announced a new codeshare partnership aimed at improving air connectivity between Canada and the South Pacific.
The agreement will allow passengers to travel across both airlines’ networks on a single booking while benefiting from coordinated connections, through-checked baggage and integrated travel services.
The partnership also supports Fiji Airways’ broader expansion strategy in North America as the carrier increases service between Vancouver and Fiji.
Expanded access across Canada and the Pacific
Under the agreement, Fiji Airways will place its “FJ” code on several WestJet domestic routes within Canada, including flights to Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Halifax.
This will provide travelers from multiple Canadian cities with easier access to Fiji Airways’ international services through Vancouver.
In return, WestJet will place its “WS” code on Fiji Airways flights between Vancouver and Nadi, as well as onward services to Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington in New Zealand.
The partnership is designed to improve connectivity between Canada, Fiji, New Zealand and other South Pacific destinations.
“Canada represents a growing and high-value market for Fiji and the wider Pacific,” said Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Paul Scurrah.
“This partnership with WestJet makes it easier than ever for Canadian travellers to experience the warmth, culture and natural beauty of Fiji.”
Vancouver route expansion
The codeshare agreement coincides with Fiji Airways’ expansion of its Vancouver operations.
Beginning June 18, the airline will operate three weekly year-round flights between Nadi and Vancouver on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
From September 8, Fiji Airways will also introduce the Airbus A350 on all Vancouver services, increasing capacity and upgrading the onboard passenger experience.
WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill said the partnership strengthens access between North America and the South Pacific.
“Together we are creating smoother journeys and more travel memories,” he said.
Growing demand for South Pacific travel
According to the airlines, passenger traffic between Canada and Fiji has increased by 19% year over year, with many travelers continuing onward from Fiji to destinations across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
Passengers booking eligible WestJet-coded itineraries under the partnership will also be able to earn and redeem WestJet points across their full journey.
The agreement reflects growing demand for long-haul leisure travel between Canada and Pacific destinations as airlines continue expanding international partnerships and route networks.
