Klarna Brings Flexible Payments To Google Gemini And AI Shopping

Klarna has announced a new expansion of its partnership with Google, bringing its flexible payment options to Google’s Gemini app and Google Search in the United States through Google Pay integration.

The move will allow shoppers using AI-powered shopping experiences to access Klarna’s payment solutions directly at checkout without leaving the conversation or switching platforms.

Flexible Payments Integrated Into AI Shopping

Consumers shopping through the Gemini app or Google Search will now see a Klarna payment option during checkout when using Google Pay.

The integration offers several payment methods, including interest-free installment plans split into four payments as well as longer-term financing options for larger purchases.

Klarna said all financing options will continue to include affordability checks before approval.

AI Commerce Continues Expanding

Klarna chief commercial officer David Sykes said flexible payments are becoming increasingly important as shopping shifts into conversational and AI-driven environments.

He said the partnership allows Klarna to become part of the decision-making process within AI-powered commerce experiences, giving consumers greater flexibility and control over purchases.

Google also described the integration as part of the broader evolution of “agentic commerce,” where AI tools increasingly guide consumers through shopping decisions.

Google Focuses On Frictionless Checkout

Ashish Gupta, Vice President and General Manager of Merchant Shopping at Google, said the addition of Klarna aims to reduce friction during the checkout process.

According to Google, integrating flexible payments directly into AI shopping tools allows consumers to complete purchases more confidently and seamlessly.

The integration operates through Google Pay and uses infrastructure connected to Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol.

Part Of Wider Google And Klarna Partnership

The latest expansion follows previous collaborations between Klarna and Google across several products including Google Pay, Google Store, Google Play and Google Cloud.

Both companies said the partnership reflects a shared focus on developing open standards for the future of AI-powered commerce and digital payments.

The announcement comes as technology companies increasingly integrate payment systems into AI assistants and conversational shopping tools.
