McDonald’s is bringing back one of its most nostalgic menu items this summer, with the return of the classic Fried Apple Pie to participating restaurants across the United States.
The limited-time offering returns on 23 June as part of celebrations leading up to America’s 250th anniversary, giving customers the opportunity to once again enjoy the dessert that became a fan favorite decades ago.
The Fried Apple Pie features a filling made with 100% American-grown apples wrapped in a crispy fried crust, recreating the original recipe that many customers remember from earlier generations of McDonald’s menus.
A McDonald’s Classic Since The 1960s
The Fried Apple Pie traces its roots back to the 1960s when East Tennessee McDonald’s Owner/Operator Litton Cochran created a fried apple hand pie that quickly gained popularity.
The dessert later became part of the McDonald’s menu and developed a loyal following among customers across the country.
According to the Cochran family, the pie was originally proposed as a dessert option during the early expansion of McDonald’s and became one of the chain’s most recognizable sweet treats.
Giant Fried Apple Pie Installation Unveiled
To mark the return of the menu item, McDonald’s is unveiling what it describes as the largest Fried Apple Pie in its history.
The 35-foot roadside installation has been erected in Joliet, Illinois, along the historic Route 66 corridor near Chicago.
The oversized pie is designed as a summer attraction where visitors can take photos and collect a commemorative McDonald’s souvenir map before continuing their road trip.
Special Events Planned In Illinois
A launch event will take place on 23 June featuring live music, complimentary Arch Cards and Coca-Cola refreshments.
The giant pie installation will remain on display through 4 July as part of the company’s celebrations connected to America’s upcoming 250th birthday.
McDonald’s says the promotion aims to encourage travelers to embrace the classic American road trip experience while revisiting one of the brand’s most iconic desserts.
