IHG Hotels & Resorts is accelerating its expansion across Mexico with dozens of new hotels planned across resort destinations, major cities and emerging tourism markets.
The company says Mexico has become its fifth-largest market globally by both hotel count and room inventory, with 187 hotels and approximately 30,000 rooms already operating across the country.
IHG currently has another 62 hotels and roughly 8,600 rooms in development.
Luxury And Lifestyle Growth Across Resort Markets
The expansion pipeline includes new luxury and lifestyle properties under brands including Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, InterContinental and Six Senses.
One of the most significant upcoming openings is Kimpton Tres Rios in the Riviera Maya, an all-inclusive resort scheduled to debut in September.
The project will add another high-end accommodation option within one of Mexico’s busiest Caribbean tourism regions.
IHG has also recently expanded the Hotel Indigo brand in the Mexican Caribbean with the opening of Hotel Indigo Playa del Carmen.
On the Pacific coast, the company has already launched Kimpton Mas Olas Todos Santos in Baja California Sur, strengthening its position within Mexico’s growing luxury boutique hotel market.
Future luxury development plans also include Six Senses Xala in Costalegre, which is expected to open in 2027.
InterContinental Returns To Monterrey
IHG is additionally expanding its premium urban portfolio with plans to reintroduce the InterContinental brand in Monterrey.
The company is also preparing to open InterContinental Miyana Mexico City as part of its continued investment in the capital’s luxury hospitality sector.
voco Brand Expansion Gains Momentum
One of IHG’s fastest-growing brands in Mexico is voco, which continues to expand through both conversions and new-build projects.
The company recently announced plans for six new voco hotels in Cancun, Guadalajara, Ciudad Juarez, San Luis Potosi, Torreon and Nuevo Laredo.
IHG is also preparing to open voco Ciudad de Mexico Reforma.
The voco brand is increasingly becoming a key part of IHG’s broader strategy for leisure, urban and all-inclusive hospitality growth.
Midscale Brands Continue Expanding
Beyond luxury hotels, IHG is also increasing its presence in the midscale segment across Mexico.
Recent additions include Holiday Inn Express Condesa Mexico City, avid hotel Guadalajara Aeropuerto Norte and the debut of the Garner hotels brand in Mazatlan.
Over the last five years, IHG says it has added more than 6,000 rooms across 14 hotel brands throughout Mexico.
Mexico Remains A Strategic Market
IHG executives say Mexico continues to represent one of the most important hospitality growth markets in the Americas due to strong international tourism flows and rising domestic travel demand.
The company’s history in Mexico dates back to 1970 with the opening of Holiday Inn Acapulco.
IHG is also strengthening its regional operations with the launch of a new headquarters in Guadalajara, where staffing is expected to grow from 40 employees to 200 by the end of 2026.
