Airbus A321XLR Could Strengthen Fleet of Itaka Air 001 Fleet

Itaka is considering adding a long-haul aircraft to strengthen its Air 001 brand, with the Airbus A321XLR emerging as a likely option. The narrow-body jet is already in service with carriers including Air Canada, Iberia and Wizz Air, while major airlines such as American Airlines, United Airlines, Qantas and IndiGo have also ordered it.

Piotr Henicz, vice-president of Itaka, did not rule out the move, suggesting the Polish travel company is looking at ways to expand its airline operation. Any decision would mark another step in the development of Air 001, which Itaka uses to support its package holiday business.

The A321XLR has gained attention from airlines around the world because it combines the economics of a single-aisle aircraft with the range needed for longer routes. That makes it attractive for operators looking to open new markets or fly thinner long-haul services without the cost of a larger jet.

Itaka has not confirmed an order, and the company has not disclosed any timetable for a fleet decision. But the comments from Henicz point to continuing interest in using aircraft to broaden the reach of its own airline brand.

Airbus has positioned the A321XLR as a key model in its long-range single-aisle family. Airlines have used it to replace or supplement larger aircraft on some routes, while also testing new point-to-point connections that were previously uneconomical.

For travel groups, a dedicated aircraft can offer more control over capacity and scheduling. It can also help support charter operations, package-holiday programmes and seasonal demand, especially on routes to leisure destinations.

The aircraft has already won support from established network carriers and low-cost airlines alike. Air Canada, Iberia and Wizz Air are among those flying it or preparing to do so, underlining the broad interest in the type across different business models.

Whether Itaka chooses the A321XLR or another aircraft, the possible addition suggests the company is weighing a bigger role for Air 001 in its wider travel strategy. For now, the comments only indicate interest rather than a confirmed purchase.
