After unveiling the Ami Buggy Rip Curl Vision concept in Hossegor last October, Citroën has moved from concept to reality with the launch of the Ami Rip Curl, a limited-edition model that channels surf culture into compact urban mobility.
Developed in collaboration with Rip Curl, the new version of the ultra-compact electric vehicle builds on the minimalist DNA of the Citroën Ami while introducing a bold aesthetic designed to stand out both at the beach and in the city. The result is a vehicle that blends lifestyle branding with practical transport, aimed at younger drivers and those seeking accessible, eco-friendly mobility.
A surf-inspired design that stands out
The Ami Rip Curl is immediately recognizable thanks to its “Black Night” exterior, contrasted with graphic accents available in two distinct themes: Sunrise, featuring yellow detailing, and Sunset, with purple highlights. Stickers incorporating wave motifs and the Rip Curl identity appear across the bodywork, including door sills, rear windows, and dashboard, reinforcing its lifestyle positioning.
Additional exterior elements include a front panel logo that varies by version and a rear spoiler that enhances the vehicle’s visual dynamism. The model also introduces exclusive 14-inch white wheels, further differentiating it from the standard Ami.
Inside, the updates continue with a new 5.7-inch digital display positioned behind the steering wheel, offering improved clarity and modernized graphics. Interior accessories are color-coordinated to match each version, with storage bins, floor mats, door nets, and a smartphone holder all aligned with the chosen theme.
A continuation of a long-running partnership
The Ami Rip Curl marks the latest chapter in a collaboration between Citroën and Rip Curl that dates back to 2016. Previous joint models have included versions of the C4 Cactus, C3 Aircross, and Berlingo, each combining automotive design with surf-inspired branding.
This latest iteration reflects a shared focus on lifestyle, leisure, and accessibility. By applying the Rip Curl identity to its smallest electric vehicle, Citroën extends the partnership into the micro-mobility segment, reinforcing themes of freedom, simplicity, and everyday adventure.
The model will also be showcased at major surf events across Europe, including the Rip Curl Nations Trophy in Munich on May 9, part of the wider GromSearch circuit that spans countries such as Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France.
Affordable electric mobility with a strong identity
Beyond its styling, the Ami Rip Curl retains the core characteristics that have defined the Ami’s success in urban markets. The fully electric vehicle offers a range of up to 75 kilometers and is designed for short-distance city use, with compact dimensions and two-seat capacity.
In many European markets, it can be driven without a traditional license from the age of 14, making it one of the most accessible forms of motorized transport available. Its simplicity, low running costs, and customizable design have positioned it as both a mobility solution and a lifestyle product.
With the Ami Rip Curl, Citroën adds a new layer of identity to that formula, targeting consumers who value both sustainability and self-expression.
Pre-orders for the limited edition opened on April 29, with pricing starting at €9,290. Production is capped at 1,600 units, split evenly between the Sunrise and Sunset versions, reinforcing its positioning as a collectible, design-led variation of one of Europe’s most unconventional electric vehicles.
