Shangri-La Group has opened Shangri-La Kunming, positioning the property as a refined entry point to the cultural and natural richness of Yunnan Province.

Designed to evoke a traditional tea merchant’s mansion, the 75-room hotel blends architecture, storytelling, and local craftsmanship into an immersive luxury experience rooted in place.

The project was developed by internationally acclaimed design studio AvroKO, known for its narrative-driven interiors. At Shangri-La Kunming, this approach translates into curated spaces such as the “Secret Garden,” alongside large-scale installations including Woven Mountains and Woven Spring.

Throughout the property, design elements reference Yunnan’s landscapes, biodiversity, and artisanal traditions, creating a cohesive visual identity that extends from public spaces to private suites.

Culinary Experiences Rooted In Altitude And Terroir

Dining plays a central role in the hotel’s storytelling, showcasing the province’s diverse produce and culinary heritage.

At the Horizon Club Lounge, guests can sample regional specialties such as naturally fermented Xuanwei ham sourced from high-altitude environments, alongside specialty coffee from the global “coffee belt,” wild mushrooms, and rose-based desserts.

At SUMA Bar – developed with SG Group – the drinks menu incorporates local ingredients and storytelling, from meltwater wines inspired by the Meili Snow Mountains to botanical spirits reflecting Mount Cangshan and Erhai Lake.

Meanwhile, Dian Voyage Yunnan Cuisine is led by acclaimed chefs Liu Xin and Yang Bolin, who reinterpret local gastronomy through a refined “highland small-batch” philosophy.

Each room and suite includes Horizon Club privileges, with distinct design concepts reflecting different aspects of Yunnan:

Beyond accommodation, the hotel offers a rainforest-inspired indoor heated pool, a 24-hour fitness centre with yoga facilities, and more than 2,000 square metres of event space.
