There’s a renewed energy in travel between the UAE and Vietnam, and it begins with a strengthened partnership between Etihad Airways and Vietnam Airlines. The two carriers have launched a new codeshare agreement that builds directly on Etihad’s recently introduced Abu Dhabi–Hanoi service, creating a smoother, more connected experience for travellers moving across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
A single ticket now links guests from Abu Dhabi straight into Vietnam’s key domestic cities and onward to popular destinations across Asia. For travellers, this means simpler journeys, one check-in, and baggage that moves automatically through every connection. Abu Dhabi becomes a clean, efficient bridge linking Vietnam to the wider world.
Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Arik De, says the partnership “unlocks access to some of Asia’s most dynamic and popular destinations” and transforms the airline’s new Hanoi route into a meaningful gateway for global travellers. He emphasised how the partnership, combined with the airlines’ shared frequent flyer benefits, offers more flexibility and a stronger network that makes long-haul travel easier.
Vietnam Airlines echoes that sentiment. Nguyen Quang Trung, Director of Corporate Planning and Development, noted that the agreement follows the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding between the two carriers and opens seamless access to Etihad’s network across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. He highlighted how the collaboration deepens economic and tourism ties between Vietnam and the UAE while expanding travel choices for passengers on both sides.
The rollout of the codeshare will happen gradually, but the benefits are immediate. Vietnam Airlines customers will gain access to six new destinations beyond Abu Dhabi: Athens, Addis Ababa, Bahrain, Muscat, Cairo, and Istanbul. These cities expand the airline’s reach into regions that were once more difficult to access on a single itinerary.
The partnership also strengthens an already active frequent flyer collaboration. Since July 2025, Etihad Guest and Lotus Miles members have been able to earn and redeem miles across both airlines’ global networks, adding extra value to the growing relationship. Paired with the new codeshare, it creates a powerful combined footprint for travellers looking for smoother routes and meaningful connectivity.
