Etihad Rail has revealed which passenger stations will open first as the UAE prepares to launch its long-awaited national passenger rail network in 2026.
The first phase of the passenger service will connect 11 cities and regions across the country, forming the backbone of the UAE’s first integrated intercity rail system.
First Passenger Stations Confirmed
Etihad Rail confirmed the initial core stations will be located in Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah, and the Al Hilal area of Fujairah.
These locations were selected due to their proximity to major residential districts, business hubs, and transport connections.
Additional stations planned for phased opening include Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya, and Al Dhaid.
Passenger Services To Launch In Phases
Etihad Rail said passenger operations will begin gradually during 2026 as stations and supporting infrastructure become operational.
The first operational routes are expected to connect Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah, significantly reducing travel times between key emirates.
Journey times are projected at approximately 57 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and around one hour and 45 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.
Network To Connect Seven Emirates
The broader 900-kilometre rail network will eventually stretch from Al Sila near the Saudi Arabian border to Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast.
The passenger system is designed to integrate with existing metro, bus, taxi, and local transport services across the UAE as part of a wider national mobility strategy.
Modern Trains And Passenger Facilities Planned
Each Etihad Rail passenger train will accommodate up to 400 travellers and include onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets, and multiple travel classes including Economy, Business, and First Class.
Officials also confirmed that stations are being designed with “first and last mile” connectivity in mind to improve seamless transfers between transport systems.
Project Supports UAE Transport And Sustainability Goals
The UAE government views Etihad Rail as a key infrastructure project aimed at improving inter-emirate connectivity, reducing road congestion, and supporting long-term sustainability objectives.
The network is also expected to boost domestic tourism, business travel, and regional economic integration once passenger services begin operating.
