Wellness tourism is getting wheels.
Viceroy Hotels & Resorts has partnered with cycling brand Rapha to introduce curated ride experiences at four of its properties — Viceroy Santa Monica, Viceroy Chicago, Viceroy Washington D.C., and Viceroy at Ombria Algarve in Portugal. The collaboration gives travelers the chance to explore each destination on two wheels, with routes designed for all levels, from relaxed 3-mile rides to challenging 60-mile adventures.
Each hotel’s routes showcase its surroundings: Santa Monica riders can cruise the beachfront boardwalk before climbing into the Hollywood Hills; Chicago’s paths highlight the city’s historic neighborhoods and scenic lakefront; Washington D.C. will feature routes past monuments and green spaces; and in Portugal’s Algarve region, cyclists can ride through rolling hills, coastal roads, and charming villages.
Guests can use Viceroy’s in-house bike fleet or rent premium road bikes through local partners, with opportunities to join Rapha-hosted group rides in select locations.
The partnership arrives as wellness tourism continues to accelerate globally. More travelers are swapping poolside lounging for fitness-focused escapes — and cycling, once seen as a niche sport, is gaining momentum among leisure travelers. According to Escape Collective, Google Trends data shows “road cycling” and “indoor cycling” among the top rising searches for 2025, signaling a broader shift toward active vacations.
While Viceroy and Rapha are paving the way for the ultimate “cyclecation,” other wellness travel trends are racing forward. “Runcations” — vacations designed around running and recovery — are fast emerging, with events like Runningman’s recent Georgia retreat offering choose-your-own-adventure runs, recovery lounges, and mindfulness sessions.
While not hotel bike rides, Hilton has partnered with Peloton to offer fitness content in rooms, integrating wellness into the stay.
