Russia Launches Michelin-Style Hospitality Rating System

The Federation of Hospitality Inspectors (FEREGO) has launched a Michelin-style evaluation system in Russia, aiming to independently assess the quality of restaurants and hotels across the country. Over the next six months, experts will visit approximately 700 establishments using a “mystery guest” methodology.

The program evaluates all aspects of hospitality, from cuisine and service to atmosphere, interior design, dish presentation, and overall guest experience. Unlike traditional awards based on expert panels or public voting, FEREGO relies on individual, on-site assessments to provide objective and detailed results.

Restaurants will be scored across 190 criteria, while hotels will be evaluated on more than 390 points, including booking procedures, staff handling of unusual situations, and overall guest satisfaction.

FEREGO works closely with regional tourism ministries, allowing them to initiate inspections in their areas. Both new and established hotels and restaurants can participate. Establishment owners enter into a service agreement for the mystery guest evaluation, while staff remain unaware of the inspection. After each visit, participants receive a detailed report highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for improvement.

Successful establishments will be awarded the “FEREGO Recommended” quality mark and featured in the Revizors Guide. The final results will be announced in February 2026 at the Russian Civic Chamber.
