Google Flights Adds AI Flight Deals Tool, Expands Vertical Search Push

Google is rolling out a new AI-powered Flight Deals feature in Google Flights, designed for travelers who care more about price than fixed dates. The beta launches this week in the U.S., Canada, and India, alongside a new option to filter out basic economy fares for domestic trips in the U.S. and Canada.

Instead of manually tweaking dates, destinations, and filters, users can now describe the trip they want in natural language — and Google’s AI will instantly suggest options, drawing on real-time Google Flights data and partner booking sites. The company says its traditional Google Flights interface “is here to stay,” meaning travelers can switch between the classic search style and the new AI-assisted approach.

The update is part of a broader pattern: Google is increasingly embedding AI into vertical search products. Just last week, Google Finance began testing a redesigned experience in the U.S., adding conversational research, advanced charting tools, more data categories, and a live news feed. Users can currently toggle between the new and classic Finance layouts during the experiment.

For now, Google Flights’ AI assistant seems aimed squarely at flexible, deal-hunting travelers — the kind who would happily shift travel dates or destinations if the savings are worth it.
