Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires has completed a meticulous restoration of La Mansión Álzaga Unzué, an architectural jewel and Cultural Heritage Site, reviving the splendour of Argentina’s Belle Époque era.
Built in the early 20th century as a wedding gift from Félix Álzaga Unzué to his wife Elena Peña, the Mansion is inspired by French palaces and has been a witness to the city’s social and cultural history, hosting distinguished personalities and iconic events.
The restoration project combined heritage craftsmanship with modern luxury, respecting the Mansion’s original materials, techniques, and design. Highlights include:
Floors & Marble: French oak floors and Italian marble thresholds meticulously restored; the 600-kilo Italian marble staircase polished to perfection.
Boiseries & Gilding: Wood-paneled walls carefully cleaned and polished; gold leaf details restored by renowned expert Fernanda González, also known for work at Teatro Colón.
Carpets & Curtains: Custom carpets crafted with historic patterns and high-quality materials; silk shantung curtains with handwoven trim.
Woodwork & Doors: Main doors restored to original wood, stripping layers of accumulated paint.
Lighting & Exterior: French tile roofs repaired, façade cleaned, and new exterior lighting design installed to highlight architectural details at night.
Sustainability Touch: A fresh herb garden on the Mansion’s terrace supports the hotel’s culinary program.
Royale Suites: Suites 102 and 103 refreshed with new furniture, mirrors, and design details, enhancing guest comfort while honoring the building’s history.
