A new international terminal has officially opened at Gorno-Altaysk Airport, part of the Sber Group of Companies, marking a major milestone in the region’s infrastructure development. The 550-square-meter facility is directly connected to the existing terminal via an enclosed gallery and is designed to handle international passenger flights.
Constructed using modern corrosion-resistant aluminum structures, the terminal is equipped with advanced engineering systems to maintain optimal climate control and passenger comfort. It features check-in counters, baggage handling equipment, a meeting room, and a dedicated food and beverage area.
“International connectivity will stimulate the growth of the hospitality and ecotourism sectors, create new opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses, and ultimately strengthen the region’s economy,” said Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank.
Flexible Use and Future Expansion
Airport authorities noted that during periods without international flights, the terminal will serve as an extension of the airport’s business lounge. This dual functionality allows for more efficient and flexible use of the space, adapting to traveler needs.
Looking ahead, a major infrastructure overhaul is planned. By 2028, the airport expects to complete the reconstruction of its airfield infrastructure and open a new passenger terminal complex, increasing capacity to over 1.3 million passengers per year.
The opening of the international terminal is more than just a facility upgrade—it represents a significant step toward positioning the Altai Republic as a key destination for sustainable tourism, cultural exploration, and economic opportunity in southern Siberia.
