New Vietnam Entry Rules Require QR Code Before Arrival

Vietnam has introduced new entry requirements for international travelers, with a mandatory digital arrival declaration now required before entering the country.

Under the new rules, foreign visitors must complete an online arrival form and obtain a QR code that will be presented during immigration checks upon arrival.

Digital Arrival Card Now Required

Travelers must complete the electronic declaration through Vietnam’s immigration portal within 72 hours before arrival.

After submitting the required information, the system generates a QR code that must be shown to immigration officers at passport control.

The digital declaration includes personal passport information, visa details, travel dates and accommodation information in Vietnam.

Who Must Complete The Form?

The requirement applies to most foreign nationals entering Vietnam, including travelers arriving under Vietnam’s visa exemption programs and holders of electronic visas.

Transit passengers who remain airside and do not pass through immigration are exempt, as are holders of diplomatic and official passports.

QR Code Needed At Immigration

Once the declaration is submitted, travelers receive a QR code that should be saved on a mobile device or printed before departure.

Immigration officers will scan the code alongside the traveler’s passport and visa documentation during the arrival process.

Travelers Should Prepare Before Departure

Visitors are advised to complete the declaration as soon as the 72-hour submission window opens and to keep a copy of the QR code accessible throughout their journey.

The digital arrival card does not replace visa requirements and must be completed in addition to any necessary visa or travel authorization.
