Vietnam Airlines Launches First Nonstop Flights Between Hanoi And Amsterdam

Vietnam Airlines has officially launched nonstop flights between Hanoi and Amsterdam, becoming the first Vietnamese airline to operate a direct air service between Vietnam and the Netherlands. The new route marks a significant milestone in the carrier’s European expansion strategy and strengthens connectivity between Southeast Asia and one of Europe’s key aviation hubs.

The inaugural service departed Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on 16 June, carrying nearly 300 passengers onboard an Airbus A350. The return flight from Amsterdam departed later the same day, establishing the first direct link between the capitals of Vietnam and the Netherlands operated by a Vietnamese carrier.

The new route is expected to support growing demand for tourism, business travel and cultural exchange while providing travelers with a more convenient alternative to connecting itineraries through other European airports.

Three Weekly Flights Connect Hanoi And Amsterdam

Vietnam Airlines will operate the new service three times per week, with flights scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The route will be served by the airline’s Airbus A350 fleet, offering long-haul comfort and enhanced passenger amenities.

The direct connection significantly reduces travel complexity for passengers traveling between the two countries, while also improving access to onward destinations across Europe through Amsterdam’s extensive aviation network.

The launch strengthens Vietnam’s international air connectivity at a time when travel demand between Asia and Europe continues to recover and expand.

Amsterdam Becomes Eighth European Destination

With the addition of Amsterdam, Vietnam Airlines now operates 12 nonstop routes connecting Vietnam with eight major destinations across Europe. The carrier’s European network includes Paris, London, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Copenhagen, Moscow and now Amsterdam.

The expansion reflects the airline’s long-term commitment to strengthening its position in the European market and providing direct links between Vietnam and major economic, tourism and business centers across the continent.

Amsterdam’s strategic location also offers travelers convenient onward connections to numerous destinations throughout Europe and beyond, enhancing the overall appeal of the new service.

European Growth Continues With Additional Moscow Flights

The launch of the Amsterdam route comes as Vietnam Airlines continues to expand capacity across its European network. The airline has also announced an increase in services between Hanoi and Moscow in response to growing passenger demand.

From 1 July 2026, the carrier will increase the frequency of its Hanoi-Moscow route from three to four round-trip flights per week. The additional service is intended to provide greater flexibility for travelers while supporting increasing travel flows between Vietnam and Russia.

Strengthening Vietnam’s Global Connectivity

The Amsterdam launch represents another step in Vietnam Airlines’ broader strategy to expand international connectivity and reinforce Vietnam’s role as a growing aviation gateway in Southeast Asia.

As international travel demand continues to rise, the addition of new long-haul routes and increased frequencies on existing services positions the airline to capture growing demand from both leisure and business travelers. The direct Hanoi-Amsterdam connection is expected to play an important role in strengthening economic ties, tourism flows and cultural exchanges between Vietnam, the Netherlands and the wider European market.
