Authorities are investigating after an 80-year-old man was found dead in the water near Puerta del Mar beach in Almuñécar on Granada’s Costa Tropical, renewing attention on beach safety during one of Spain’s busiest travel periods.

Emergency services were alerted shortly after 2pm on Tuesday when multiple calls were made reporting that a person had been spotted floating in the sea near the popular beach.

Several people nearby entered the water and managed to bring the man back to shore before emergency responders arrived.

Beachgoers And Emergency Crews Attempted Resuscitation

Once on the beach, cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures were immediately started as bystanders and emergency personnel attempted to save the man’s life.

Emergency services activated medical teams alongside local police and Guardia Civil units after receiving the calls.

Despite efforts by beachgoers and emergency responders, the man could not be revived.

Authorities Investigating Cause Of Death

Officials have not yet determined what caused the incident and investigations remain ongoing.

Guardia Civil has activated judicial protocols while investigators attempt to establish whether the man drowned or suffered a medical emergency before entering the water.
