Primavera Sound Cancels Headline Sets After Barcelona Storms

Primavera Sound’s opening day in Barcelona suffered major disruption after severe storms, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms forced organizers to cancel several headline performances, affecting one of the festival’s most anticipated nights.

The weather emergency impacted operations across Parc del Fòrum on June 4, leaving thousands of festivalgoers facing delays, cancellations and temporary stage closures as organizers prioritized safety.

The disruption comes during one of Europe’s largest music festivals, which runs from June 4 to June 7 and attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Barcelona every year.

Doja Cat, Massive Attack And Bad Gyal Performances Canceled

Festival organizers initially suspended activities across multiple stages as weather conditions deteriorated across Barcelona during the evening.

Early cancellations included performances from Alex G and Mac DeMarco before organizers later confirmed that headline appearances from Doja Cat, Massive Attack and Bad Gyal would also not take place.

According to organizers, the combination of severe weather conditions and technical complications created unsafe operating conditions for major performances.

Some parts of the festival later resumed operations as conditions improved and selected stages reopened.

Heavy Rainfall Triggered Safety Concerns Across Barcelona

Weather authorities issued warnings across Catalonia as forecasts predicted between 40 and 60 millimeters of rainfall within a single hour during the evening.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms affected multiple parts of the festival site, reducing operations to a limited number of functioning stages while technical teams assessed conditions.

The disruption highlights increasing challenges facing major outdoor festivals as extreme weather events become more frequent during peak event seasons.

Safety concerns forced organizers to prioritize crowd management and infrastructure assessments throughout the night.

Festival Continues Despite Difficult Opening Night

The cancellations affected one of Primavera Sound’s strongest opening lineups in recent years.

Massive Attack had been scheduled to return after previously canceling an earlier appearance, while Doja Cat and Bad Gyal were among the highest-profile artists booked for Thursday night.

Despite the difficult start, organizers continue preparing for remaining festival days featuring major artists scheduled across June 5 to June 7.

The weather disruption creates additional pressure on organizers as Barcelona continues hosting one of Europe’s busiest summer festival calendars.
