Port Polska’s new airport is set to open in 2032 with capacity for 34 million passengers a year, according to a senior figure involved in the project.
The figure was confirmed during a parliamentary infrastructure committee session focused on Port Polska. Dariusz Kus, a board member at Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, the company delivering the investment, said the project is being designed with expansion options built in from the start.
“We are building in options for a larger airport at opening,” said Dariusz Kus, board member at Centralny Port Komunikacyjny.
The planned opening capacity underlines how the project is being shaped to handle strong passenger demand from the outset. The airport is one of the largest transport schemes under development in Poland and is intended to become a major hub.
Capacity planning is central to the airport’s design. By including room for expansion before the first passengers arrive, the project aims to reduce the need for major structural changes soon after launch.
The latest confirmation gives a clearer picture of the scale expected for the airport’s first phase. A 34 million annual passenger capacity would place it among the busier new airports in Europe when it opens.
Centralny Port Komunikacyjny has said the investment is being delivered as a broader transport project, linking aviation with rail and road connections. The airport is meant to support long-term growth in travel demand and regional connectivity.
The committee discussion also highlighted the importance of early planning in a project of this size. Large airport developments often need flexible terminal and airside layouts so they can adapt to rising demand over time.
For travellers, the key takeaway is that the airport’s opening scale is already being set at a substantial level. The 2032 target remains the current milestone, with construction and design decisions now shaping how much traffic the airport can handle from day one.
