A British woman has gone missing while attempting to drive from Spain’s Costa Blanca back to the United Kingdom, prompting growing concern from her family and an international appeal for information.
Wendy Iles was last heard from on Sunday evening near Alfafar in the Valencia region, according to her daughter Louise, who has already contacted British police and obtained an Interpol reference number.
Last Contact Made Near Valencia
Louise said she last spoke to her mother around 9pm on 24 May while Wendy was travelling through the Alfafar area near Valencia.
The missing woman had reportedly been driving from the Costa Blanca area toward Caen in northern France to catch a ferry back to the UK after missing an earlier crossing on 23 May.
Wendy is believed to have started her journey from the Cumbre del Sol residential area near the coastal town of Javea.
She was travelling with her Springer Spaniel named Beau.
Family Fears Camper Van And Passports Were Stolen
According to messages shared by her daughter, Wendy may no longer have access to her camper van or travel documents.
Louise said her mother had previously reported the vehicle stolen during their last conversation.
The missing camper van is described as a UK-registered vehicle with the number plate V233 HWA.
Family members also reported that Wendy’s phone has been inactive since approximately 9:45pm on Sunday evening.
Concerns Raised Over Her Wellbeing
Louise stated publicly that her mother appeared confused during their final conversation and failed to arrive at a hotel where she had been advised to stay while dealing with the camper van situation.
She has appealed for people across Spain, particularly in the Valencia region, to share information or report any sightings.
According to the family, British police will not yet monitor bank transactions unless the case is upgraded to high-risk status, while Spanish authorities reportedly require 48 hours before launching a full search operation.
Recent Cases Highlight Risks For Travellers
The disappearance comes shortly after several other incidents involving British nationals travelling in Spain.
Last month, a British man travelling from Almeria to Essex in his van was briefly reported missing before being found safe.
Earlier this year, another British tourist disappeared on the Costa del Sol and was later found dead following a police search operation.
Authorities and family members continue urging anyone with information about Wendy Iles or her whereabouts to contact police immediately.
