Wizz Air Launches New Spain to Italy Routes

Wizz Air is expanding its Southern European network with several new routes connecting Spain and Italy ahead of the 2026 autumn travel season.

The low-cost carrier continues increasing Mediterranean capacity as airlines compete for growing leisure travel demand across Europe’s strongest tourism markets.

New Spain-Italy Routes Launching In September And October

Wizz Air will launch flights between Málaga and Venice on 14 September 2026, followed by a new Málaga to Turin service beginning on 26 October 2026.

Additional routes launching on 15 September 2026 include Zaragoza to Milan Malpensa and Santander to Milan Malpensa.

The airline is also preparing to introduce a new connection between Menorca and Rome, although an official launch date for the route has not yet been confirmed.

Mediterranean Leisure Demand Continues Growing

The expansion strengthens links between Spanish regional airports and major Italian tourism cities as airlines continue increasing capacity across Southern Europe.

Spain and Italy remain among Europe’s strongest-performing tourism markets, supported by strong demand for short-haul city breaks, beach holidays and affordable regional travel.

Industry analysts say Mediterranean routes continue recording some of the fastest passenger growth rates within the European aviation market.

Budget Airlines Compete Aggressively Across Southern Europe

Low-cost carriers have been aggressively expanding operations across Southern Europe as travellers increasingly seek lower-cost holiday alternatives amid rising accommodation and travel expenses.

Wizz Air has continued growing its European network in direct competition with Ryanair, easyJet and Vueling across price-sensitive leisure routes.

The airline has particularly focused on strengthening connectivity between regional airports and high-demand tourism destinations.

Regional Spanish Airports Benefit From Expansion

The new routes are also expected to support inbound tourism to Spanish destinations including Málaga, Santander, Zaragoza and Menorca.

At the same time, the additional services will improve direct access for Spanish travellers heading to northern Italy and Rome.

Tourism authorities across Southern Europe continue prioritising improved regional connectivity as part of broader efforts to diversify visitor flows beyond major capital city airports.

Point-To-Point Mediterranean Travel Remains Key Growth Segment

Aviation analysts say point-to-point Mediterranean connections remain one of the fastest-growing segments within Europe’s aviation industry.

Airlines are increasingly targeting flexible leisure demand, regional tourism growth and secondary airport expansion as competition intensifies ahead of future summer and autumn travel seasons.
