LOT Launches San Francisco Route With Premium Economy Test

Poland is experiencing one of the fastest tourism growth rates in Europe as international visitor numbers continue rising and new long-haul flight connections expand access to the country.

According to figures from European statistical agency Eurostat, international tourists spent 46.1 million more overnight stays in Poland between 2024 and 2025, representing annual growth of 7%.

The increase places Poland second only to Malta among Europe’s fastest-growing tourism markets.

Once overshadowed by neighboring destinations during the summer travel season, Poland is now attracting growing international attention for its mix of historic cities, natural landscapes and relatively affordable travel experiences.

Tourists Discover Poland Beyond Traditional European Hotspots

Visitors are increasingly travelling to Poland to experience destinations such as Warsaw and Krakow, both known for their historic old towns, cultural landmarks and restored architecture.

The country is also gaining popularity for its lakes, mountain resorts, national parks and winter sports destinations.

While most international tourists still arrive from neighboring European countries, Poland is now seeing increasing demand from North American travellers looking for alternatives to more crowded western European destinations.

LOT Launches Direct Warsaw To San Francisco Flights

Responding to rising demand, LOT Polish Airlines has launched its first-ever direct route between Warsaw and San Francisco.

The seasonal service operates four times per week between May and October and becomes the airline’s sixth destination in the United States.

LOT already serves New York, Newark, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles from Poland.

The new route operates using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and takes approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes westbound.

Flights from Warsaw depart at 11:15 a.m. on Thursdays and Sundays, arriving in San Francisco at 5:40 p.m. local time. Return flights depart California at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, landing back in Warsaw at 10:50 p.m. local time.

Airline Targets Business And Leisure Demand

The 248-seat aircraft includes economy, premium economy and business class cabins as LOT seeks to capture both leisure and corporate travel demand between Poland and the U.S. West Coast.

The airline says the route will improve direct connectivity between Central and Eastern Europe and California, reducing the need for passengers to transfer through hubs such as Frankfurt, New York or Chicago.

“The new service will create opportunities for business partnerships, knowledge exchange and stronger economic ties between Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, and the U.S. West Coast,” LOT Chief Commercial Officer Robert Ludera said.

The first San Francisco flight operated on 6 May, with summer round-trip fares starting from around $600 in economy when booked in advance.

Poland Continues Expanding Global Tourism Appeal

The combination of rising tourism demand and expanded international air access reflects Poland’s growing profile within the European travel market.

Industry analysts expect the country’s popularity to continue increasing as travellers seek destinations offering cultural depth, lower costs and less overcrowding than some of Europe’s traditional tourism hotspots.
